Who We Are and What We Do
The Skeena Climbing Society started to provide access and basic training of climbing equipment to the community of Terrace with a focus on youth. This was an opportunity through the local high School, Caledonia who’s outdoor education program raised money to build a small indoor climbing wall with toprope climbing. This was primarily for school-children and did not provide access to the community at large, so SCS provided that opportunity by becoming a designated society and registered with the Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC (FMCBC) to acquire their own insurance. For the last nine years, working with the high school, SCS has provided indoor climbing nights at this wall. Gym space is limited in Terrace, so school sports teams get precedence, resulting in later climb times for the community. We continue to work with the school to gain an earlier time slot, stay tuned! As a result of this maxing out effect we’ve seen, we have been working hard to create another indoor climbing space with more time access.
The details are being worked out for a local bouldering space with at least 5 day a week climbing times. Funds are being raised through a goFundme page, and all other forms of donations through events and fundraisers. Please spread the word and reach out if you would like to help out.
